EFA NEWSLETTER APRIL

On April 15th, the EFA event in collaboration with the Czech Ministry of Transport was held in Prague.

The event was attended by about 700 people, also thanks to the active presence of the Minister of Transport, Mr. Martin Kupka.

In the morning, some EFA members were invited to talk about the recent news on driver training and the work that the European association in collaboration with the Czech association is doing in the field of driving instructor training.

Great work by the Czech association in organizing the event and involving numerous stakeholders interested in driver training activities.

In the afternoon, the EFA Delegate Meeting was held behind closed doors, where the latest activities of the European association and the strategy to follow in the coming years were presented, also in light of the new driving licence directive that should be released after the summer of this year.

The visit of the Minister of Transport to the EFA meeting was very welcome. Mr. Kupka wanted to greet the EFA delegates and briefly participated in the afternoon work.

EFA Board would like to thank our Czech colleagues Ales Horcicka, Jiri Novotny and Ondrej Horazny for their great work in organizing the 2-day event. All photos from the event are available in the members area of the EFA website.

The second day of the EFA event took place in the race track, where the EFA Delegates were able to try their hand at the various activities planned for the day.

Thanks to the cars made available by Skoda Auto, driving skill exercises have been organized, such as unloading obstacles in adverse weather conditions. The exercises planned for the motorcycle instructors were also very successful. The participants were able to carry out the exercises on the circuit, using the motorcycles made available by CF Moto.

Participants were also able to try the recent device made available by PIMAS (new EFA associate member), which allows deaf people to be able to carry out driving lessons without increasing cognitive stress. The device was recently approved by the French Ministry of Transport, including for the training of professional drivers.

For the day, other stands were also equipped with driving simulators, virtual reality and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The European Commission is publishing preliminary figures on road fatalities for 2024. Around 19,800 people were killed in road crashes in the EU last year, a slight 3% drop compared to 2023. It is the equivalent to 600 fewer lives lost. Even if road fatalities decreased more significantly in 2024 than they did in 2023, the overall pace of improvement remains too slow, and most Member States are not on track to meet the EU’s goal of halving road deaths by 2030. The European Transport Safety Council has welcomed the proposal to close the current loophole that has allowed a handful of EU Member States including Finland, Ireland and the Netherlands to exclude all motorcycles from regular testing requirements. Portugal also announced last year that it would cancel plans to introduce regular checks on all motorcycles. Under the new EU proposals, excluding all motorcycles from tests will no longer be allowed. Read the full article https://mailchi.mp/etsc/roadworthiness_reaction?e=5f52eb2a51
