EFA Online Delegate Meeting

The first online EFA Delegate Meeting took place on November 26th. During the works important decisions were taken for the future of the association. The EFA Board is strengthened with the inauguration of the new Vice President Dr. Stefan Ebner (WKO – Austria). EFA announces an increasingly important role in the global scenario of road safety.


CIECA General Assembly
Confirmed the CIECA presidency: Mrs. M.C. Claesen as President (CBR) and Ms. Susana Paulino (IMT) as Vice President has been confirmed. The EFA Board and its members congratulate the reconfirmations of the appointments and wish the Permanent Bureau a good job. Congrats!
Driving licence legislation ex-post evaluation
EU Commission is launching a consultation in the context an ex-post evaluation of the Driving Licence Directive (Directive (EU) 2006/126/EC) which aims at improving road safety and facilitating free movement of citizens across EU. The results of the evaluation will be taken into consideration to determine if changes and/or improvements are necessary to the Driving Licence Directive.
Presentation of the DEKRA Road Safety Report 2020
The DEKRA Road Safety Report 2020 contains assessments conducted by our experts on actions which can be taken to counteract accidents involving two-wheeled vehicles. In addition, it offers starting points for safe two-wheeler traffic, considering people, technology and infrastructure as key factors. This year’s report emphasizes mobility on two wheels, given the steady increase of micro mobility in urban areas. Moreover, road users on two wheels are often confronted with particularly complex and dangerous road traffic situations.

1st public workshop impact assessment for the revision of the Intelligent Transport Systems Directive – 15 December
On 15 December (10:00-13:00 CET) the European Commission will organise a workshop on the revision of the Intelligent Transport Systems Directive.
The workshop will focus on the definition of the main problems related to the deployment and use of ITS, and will discuss the problem drivers and identify all relevant root causes in dialogue with stakeholders. If you are interested in participating in the workshop, please register by 8 December.
CIECA Report Medical Fitness to Drive Final summarising report
Under the auspices of CIECA, an international European working group of experts on medical fitness to drive reviewed the need for changes within different relevant medical areas in Annex III of the European Directive on driving licences 2006/126 EC.
Voi e-scooters to include pedestrian detection and satellite positioning
Voi has announced that its e-scooters are to include a AI vision system that will offer real-time pedestrian detection, similar to that available in luxury cars.
Monitoring Progress in Urban Road Safety
The International Transport Forum (ITF) launched the ITF Safer City Streets initiative at the UN Habitat III conference in 2016. It brings together road safety experts working in cities and explores the solutions developed at a local level.
