FESVIAL and the Universitat de València have carried out different research and awareness-raising actions on the importance of vision in road safety with the aim of reducing accidents in Spain and in the rest of the world caused by poor visual health. The National Confederation of Driving Schools (CNAE) has actively participated in its dissemination and awareness with all its associated centers.
The conclusions obtained show that visual health is an important factor to take into account in road safety and that it requires the development of immediate actions by all those involved in road safety.
As a result of this work, FESVIAL and the University of València have prepared the following “position paper” that collects all the work carried out to date and the main conclusions and recommendations to promote visual health as a commitment to continue reducing road accidents.
One of the recommendations is to enhance the role of vision within the training context in obtaining a driving license, an aspect that we consider important at CNAE. Having adequate visual health is essential to drive safely, since vision is the main source of information in driving, 90% of the information acquired while driving is visual.
